2008 Schedule of Classes

Learn Seatweaving, Knitting, and Crocheting
We offer a number of classes in seatweaving, knitting, and crocheting. If you are interested, please check the schedule.

 

Learning Seat Weaving of all types

Seat Weaving classes will again be offered through the Millcreek Township Recreation and Parks Office.  The classes will mee on Tues evening (7-9pm) and on Friday mornings (10-12am) at the Asbury Community Barn on Asbury Road. This will be our 8th year of offering these classes at the barn.   We have had a great following with some weavings having been with the class since we began.  

 All you need to bring is a chair or stool to weave a seat into and an interest in learning how to weave a chair seat.  We teach all types from Rush to Caning, even the prewoven caning installation.  All material and tools will be available to help get you started. You do need to register with the Rec and Parks office.  Everyone is welcome.

Classes for the fall of 2009 will begin Sept 15 (Tuesday evenings) and 18 (Friday mornings).  Call now to register, even if you are not a Millcreek Twp resident.  The classes are open to everyone.

Seeking Class Members:

We plan to offer Chair Seat Weaving classes in Corry, PA in the fall or winter of 2009-10. The four-day course (Saturdays from 11am-4pm) would being sponsored by the Whistle Stop Antique Mall.

Contact the Whistle Stop for details and to register. Spaces are limited. Chairs can be purchased from the Whistle Stop for a small fee or bring your own chair. You can learn chair caning, cane webbing, fiber rush, or flat reed seat weaving. Total cost for the course is $100.00.  Join the class now.

Basket Making

Classes will use a selected basket pattern to create a basic handwoven basket using flat reed. Seat weaving will also be taught each Friday. Bring a chair and learn to bring new life to an antique chair, bench, or rocker.
